Harold Stutsman was born October 27, 1910 in Oregon, City, Oregon and moved at an early age to Walla Walla, Washington. His parents were Royal and Clara Stutsman. Both sets of Harold's grandparents were pioneers.

Royal Stutsman came from North Dakota where a county was named after the Stutsman family. Clara Stutsman was a Hodgen. Her family came from Hodgenville, Kentucky. Her ancestors, as children, played with Abraham Lincoln.
As a child, Harold had polio and was unable to walk for several years. Harold had an older brother and a younger sister.

In November of 1942, Harold enlisted in the army and was deployed to Europe. In December of 1944, Harold was missing in action. In May of 1945, he was reported a prisoner of war in Stalag 4B, Germany. He was liberated shortly afterwards and returned home with a Purple Heart award that June.

Harold met Hazel in 1952 and they were married soon after. He worked in the maintenance department of Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. In 1970, he was forced to retired for health reasons. He and Hazel enjoyed many years of leisure together, traveling the countryside.
On January 3, 1987, Harold died at home in Walla Walla.
