My mom and I had so much fun together. When I was a kid, sometimes she would let me skip school as a "mental health" day. We would go shopping, or as a special treat, to the races! She had a secret penchant for race horses, but never really bet much.
For years, Mom put her family's needs above her own. I'm so glad she got to spend her retirement as an "independent woman," pursuing her favorite passions.
Mom was such a trooper. I miss her every day.
